Sunday Worship & Education
Each week, children from pre-K through 8th grade and their families take part in a brief
combined worship service in the Chapel (10 a.m. sharp), followed by age-appropriate classes for children and youth in the Community House until 10:50 a.m. The
Sunday School curriculum includes the lectionary-based "Living the Good News," the Book of Common Prayer, and the Montessori-style "Godly Play" method for presenting scripture stories and liturgical lessons to children. During this time, youth ages 12-16 meet at The C.E.N.T.E.R (Create. Engage. Navigate. Test. Explore. Relate.) to hang out, have fun, talk, and ask questions. (Vestry room). Artists-in-Residence Summer Series
From mid-June through August, Sunday School programming for children takes the form of art classes at 10 a.m. in the Community House! In sessions framed by family prayer, children and their parents have a wonderful opportunity to make art with professionals who are also members of St. Bart's. Various arts are represented, including watercolor, stained glass, cartooning, stand-up comedy, song-writing, quilting, scrapbooking, and more. Click here for the 2007 schedule.
Sunday School Teachers
Parishioners (for at least six months) with gifts in interacting with children are encouraged to pray about discerning a call to the ministry of teaching at our church, and to contact the Director or any member of the CY&F Team to talk about our education ministry. Curriculum materials and training sessions are provided for you and your term teaching partner. Teachers are required to take a diocesan "safe church" training session during the course of their teaching term.
Storytime (Sermon Experience for Children)
Children are especially welcome at all of our worship services, and during the sermon at the 11 a.m. service, they are invited to the Chapel for their own special Storytime, led by lay leaders, clergy, or seminarians. Storytime ranges from meditative to rollicking good fun, depending upon the storyteller – it exposes children to a good range of educational techniques, adult mentoring, and varieties of faithful interpretation. After Storytime, the children are invited to participate in the offertory procession, where they carry the offerings collected during the Children & Family Chapel service, as well as food items for distribution by our Community Ministry.
