FOLLIES, the historic, award winning, Stephen Sondheim musical, will close The Players historic 80th Anniversary Season.  With a book by James Goldman, this fully staged concert version of “Follies” will be presented in 11 performances over two weekends beginning Saturday April 26th, closing Sunday May 4th.

Presented off-Broadway at the Wings Theatre at 154 Christopher Street, “Follies” tells the story of a reunion of ex-follies performers (partial cast photo attached) visiting the soon-to-be-demolished theatre in which they used to perform.  The stage is set for the parade of brilliant 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s pastiche numbers that have become every bit as famous as their models: “Loosing My Mind”, “I’m Still Here” and “Broadway Baby” to name a few.  Amid the reminiscing, two couples confront some unpleasant truths about their past and present, and come face to face with their future.

At the Saturday evening performance on April 26th, Ted Chapin – author of “Everything Was Possible: The Birth of the Musical “Follies” – has agreed to speak to our audience after the show about his days as a college student working on the original production of “Follies” which would go on to win seven Tony Awards on Broadway.

April 26 – May 4 at Wings Theatre, 154 Christopher Street.

Tickets are $25, $23 for seniors and students. Call the box office at (212) 378-0248 or order at St. Bart's Box Office on-line.
Established in 1927, St. Bart's Players are the longest-running community theater in New York City.

Now in their 79th season, The Players—the longest-running community theatre in New York City—enjoy a long tradition of high quality off-off Broadway theatre having been acknowledged by The New York Times as “consistently achieving professional caliber.” In 2004, The Players were recognized by the Off-Off Broadway Review (OOBR) with an award for “Sustained Achievement Over Time.” While The Players employ professional directors, designers and musicians to guide their productions, it is the volunteer membership that do the acting, run the lights and sound, gather the props, sell the refreshments, manage theatre operations. This season’s highlights include a special fund raising production of "A Christmas Carol,” performed as a live radio play (December 10–12), in a benefit for the LIFE Shelter’s Christmas Miracles Program.
