Parish Council

The Parish Council is commissioned to assist St. Bart's to grow in number, in spirit, and in community.

The Parish Council is commissioned to assist St. Bart's to grow in number, in spirit, and in community. It is an elected/appointed body of parishioners working to develop, encourage, and support lay ministries. By listening and responding sensitively to the needs and concerns of all aspects of the parish, the parish Council can advise the clergy and vestry on matters relating to the life of the church and its people.

Susannah Wade Jones
Susannah Wade Jones grew up as a member of the Episcopal Church and transferred her membership to St. Bart's after she moved to New York. She has been an active participant in Annual Fund efforts at St. Bart's for the past year and a half and currently serves as Convener for the 20s/30s group. She is also a docent. Since December 2005, she has co-chaired "From Water to Wine," a wine and cheese tasting benefit at St. Bart's to raise funds for the preservation of the building. Professionally, Susannah works for Brown Harris Stevens.





Steve Sakson
When Steve Sakson went searching for a spiritual home in 1998, St. Bart's was his first, and last, stop. Today, he serves on the Habitat for Humanity Committee, is a greeter at Sunday worship, volunteers at the shelter, and is a table leader at Practicing the Faith meetings. When he finds the time, Steve is a communications specialist with the management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, helping clients and other consultants be persuasive using the written and spoken word. Prior to McKinsey, Steve was a journalist for 25 years. His specialties included criminal justice, politics and government, health care and the stock market. He later directed business news for The Associated Press.



Karen Anne Johnson
Karen Anne Johnson is a life-long New Yorker, educated in the public school system in Westchester County. She studied social work at Lehman College and worked as a community social worker at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. She currently works as an online medical surgery project coordinator for Henry Schein, Inc. Karen Anne has been a member of St. Bart's since 1998. She has been involved in the Children, Youth and Family ministry since 2002, and served as a L.I.F.E. center school supply drive coordinator. She is a member of the St. Bart's Singers volunteer choir, serves as an usher and greeter, and has helped to organize numerous events including the 2005 Fall Moon Dance and Silent Auction Fundraiser. Karen Anne is the mother of two sons, Rob and Zachary, and a grandmother of Omar Rueben and Kira Elise.

Pamela Nesbitt
Pamela Nesbitt works as a SEIT Supervisor and YAI/LifeStart. She is a member of the Children's Committee of the Developmental Disabilities Council of New York City, and of the Children's Health and the Environment Committee. At St. Bartholomew's, Pam serves in the Children, Youth and Families Ministry. She has been the chair of the School Supply Drive for the L.I.F.E. Center, chair of the Fall Moon Dance and Silent Auction Fundraiser. She also serves on the Search Committee for the Director of St. Bartholomew's Preschool.


Rebecca Barnes
Rebecca Barnes has been a member of
St. Bartholomew's since 2001. She heads the Centering Prayer Ministry at St. Bart's, is the coordinator of the New York City Chapter of Contemplative Outreach, and a trained labyrinth facilitator. She also serves actively in many other ministries including Prayer Team, LEM, Daily Office Officiant, St. Bart's@Home, A New Thing, Community Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, and the L.I.F.E. Center Christmas Miracles Project. Rebecca has been a professional church musician for over 20 years and holds a Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelors of Arts degree from Hartwick College. She is employed as a Program Officer at the Institute of International Education.

Anne Karoly
Anne Karoly is a life-long Episcopalian who has been involved in many different ministries in this church as well as in other parishes and dioceses. She moved to the east coast from California ten years ago to pursue a M.A. in Christian Education at Virginia Theological Seminary. Since graduation she has exercised her gifts as a lay professional and as a volunteer in Christian formation parish programs. Currently, she is the Publications Manager for the General Convention Office of the Episcopal Church.


Christian Burke
Lifelong Episcopalian Christian Burke began attending St. Bartholomew’s Church in 1997 and officially joined St. Bart’s family in 2002. For the past two years has been one of the Head Greeters and Ushers, and for the past year has been the coordinator for the Coffee Hour spotlight tables. In 2003-2004, he served as a Table Leader for Life @ St. Bart’s.

Professionally, Christian is a business manager for home textiles manufacturer, WestPoint Home. The Virginia native is a resident of Riverdale in the Bronx.
