A gift to St. Bart's, the first piece in this edition is located in the narthex of the church. It represents the crucifixion in the shape of a mandala. This work was the focus for collaboration with St. Bart's Children Youth and Family Ministries, resulting in an adjoining exhibition of mandalas created by families of St. Bart's which were exhibited in the Cloister.
A 12"x12" hand-signed limited-edition print of this artwork is available for purchase in the St. Bart's Bookstore.
"THE GIFT" or "CHRISTMAS CHRIST"
An integral part of our creative outreach includes incorporation of today's digital palette and social media tools to expand the reach of our mission .
THE GIFT is an interactive icon that comes to life in the season of Advent. Those who own the hand-signed mounted archival print (available in the St. Bart's Bookstore) are given a password which unlocks the interactive website (which they can view at any time) while others may only journey into this piece during the Advent season, when it becomes free to all. Bill Tully, our Rector, likened it to an interactive Advent Calendar, only in this case we only had four links, one for each Sunday in Advent.
When the piece launched in 2009, it became the theme for the season and was not only the front face of our website, but the poster, the postcard and the center around which we collaborated -- such that the theme aligned theologically with what our clergy planned in their sermons for the period. This brought a force to our season, uniting our parish and those beyond our borders around a central theme that brought this magnificent story into the present day.
The work was created, concieved and directed by Roz Dimon in the form of a DIMONscape®. Many thanks to Bill Tully, Buddy Stallings and especially to Kathy Bozzuti-Jones, our then Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries.
PSALM 19: HYMN TO THE CHOIRMASTER
This work was created in 2010 by Roz Dimon and is an interactive Psalm. It directs our attention to St. Bart's Director of Music, Bill Trafka and was originally inspired as a tribute to a friend of the artist, and talented digital artist, Clay Debevoise. The voice is sung by Kathy Bozzuti-Jones, formerly the Director of Children Youth & Family Ministries at St. Bart's. Click here to experience the Psalm. (note it contains sound)
