St. Bart's @ Home Small Groups

Many among us seek deeper connections within the Church – not always easy to find in a big church in a big city. We want the benefits of being part of a large congregation and all it has to offer, as well as the nourishment of belonging to a smaller group of friends who really know and support each other. Many large and growing churches have found that one of the keys to their ongoing life and health is the creation and cultivation of small groups of parishioners who commit to study scripture, praying, and share fellowship together. Here, one of the ways to cultivate this small group experience is through a "St. Bart's @ Home" group.

As is true for all of our study and fellowship groups, the St. Bart's @ Home atmosphere is intended to be hospitable to any question. The groups are a venue for exploring the primary question: What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? and to provide companionship for people who are seeking to answer this question in the living out of their daily lives.

Many different kinds of groups meet at St. Bartholomew's Church. A St. Bart 's @ Home group may not be right for everyone. We recommend that people who are brand new to St. Bart's take one of our foundational adult formation classes, such as A New Thing or Practicing the Faith, before joining a home group.

If you'd like to learn more about becoming a host (one who makes their home the site of a new group) or a leader (one who facilitates bible study and discussion), email Elizabeth Garnsey at garnsey@stbarts.org, by September 5th. Hosts and leaders are commissioned for this ministry after a mutual discernment meeting with the clergy.

For more information about groups in your neighborhood, or about how to form a new group, contact St. Bart's Central at 212-378-0222 or central@stbarts.org.
