HABITAT FOR HUMANITY - ST. BART'S CHAPTER
Mortar alone does not build a house. People do. Read Buddy Stallings personal account here.
Our Habitat for Humanity team grows stronger each year, and participates in local and far-away builds, including a week in February 2011 where we laid the foundation for a home in the Dominican Republic (team shown above) and in the prior year, 2010, where we built a house in New Orleans. (post-Katrina)
Our next volunteer opportunity is in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn on Saturday, June 18. The Bedford-Stuyvesant Residences are a part of a new project in which volunteers refurbish vacant buildings scattered throughout this historic neighborhood into affordable, green co-ops and condos. We do not yet know exactly what kind of work we will be performing. No particular experience is necessary, but you must come dressed to work, including closed toed shoes or boots and long pants. We will receive all necessary instruction and be supplied with all needed tools and equipment. We always give the option to travel to the site by subway as a group, and either bring our lunches or eat at a local restaurant. Space is absolutely limited to 5 volunteers. If you can make a commitment to attend, or if you have any questions,
Email St. Bart's Central to find out more about our St. Bart's Chapter of Habitat For Humanity.
