TOKEN Grief Group - The Grief Group at St. Bart's...GRIEF GROUP

The Journey Toward Understanding and Healing

St. Bart's Grief Group offers support, confidentiality and healing shared with others who are actively grieving the loss of a loved one.

Dealing with loss and grief is challenging.  If that is your experience, consider joining St. Bart’s Grief Group. This group is open to all, free of charge and meets at St. Bart’s twice monthly, except during the summer months. Please contact Betsy Scott at 212-223-3009 before attending the group for the first time, or if you have any questions about whether this group is right for you.

This group formed in Fall 2009 at St. Bartholomew’s to provide mutual support and healing for those facing and actively grieving the death of a loved one. The group is facilitated by St. Bart’s parishioner Betsy Scott, LCSW, licensed family therapist and psychoanalyst, who holds an M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary and an MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work.

"Grief is part of life." The Dalai Lama begins his book, "THE ART OF HAPPINESS," with that very fact. Our life here at St. Bart's is about community, a larger family where we come together to share, learn, and grow. In a society where every drug, slogan and laundry detergent promises eternal life, it can be a relieving joy, even fun and funny at times, to get together and share our sorrows openly in a world that we all experience as imperfect. In the process, we enable ourselves to explore what it means to live and feel joy in the larger sense of the word, bringing our sorrow with us as part of who we are becoming.
