Now in their 79th season, The Players -- the longest-running community theatre in New York City -- enjoy a long tradition of high quality off-off Broadway theatre having been acknowledged by The New York Times as "consistently achieving professional caliber". In 2004, The Players were recognized by the Off-Off Broadway Review (OOBR) with an award for "Sustained Achievement Over Time." While The Players employ professional directors, designers and musicians to guide their productions, it is the volunteer membership that do the acting, run the lights and sound, gather the props, sell the refreshments, manage theatre operations. This season, The Players present Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s "A Little Night Music" (November 9-19 2006); Ken Ludwig’s "Moon Over Buffalo" (February 8-18 2007); and "The World Goes Round: The Songs of Kander and Ebb" (April 19-29, 2007). On December 11-13, The Players will present a special fund raising production of "It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play" by Joe Landry. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to support the LIFE Shelter’s Christmas Miracles Program.
