Bach’s Easter Oratorio (“Kommt, eilet und laufet”) and his Magnificat are two of the most festive works composed while he was Kantor of the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. Written for the high feast days of Easter and Christmas, both are scored for choir and soloists with an elaborate orchestra including trumpets and tympani emphasizing the celebratory nature of these important days in the Church calendar.
