PHILOSOPHY
Our educational philosophy is based on fostering a love of learning, while celebrating and embracing each child’s uniqueness. We are committed to providing an environment where children’s curiosity is encouraged. Teachers at St. Bart’s are experienced educators, able to understand each child’s needs and to work with them in a manner that is most beneficial to the child. With a teacher and two teaching assistants in each classroom, there is a greater opportunity for individual attention.
COMMUNITY
We strongly encourage our parents to become involved. There are numerous opportunities including attending a Family Luncheon, chaperoning a class trip, or serving as a Class Representative. School Librarians, Class Librarians and weekly Readers oversee and manage the Library program. Parents also enjoy working together on the Book Fair, Comedy Night and Parents’ Night. The Preschool Advisory Board, comprised of both past and current parents, work together to set school policy, oversee the Annual Fund and assist the Director as needed.
Communication between teachers and parents is vital and on-going. Two formal Parent/Teacher conferences are held during the year and Class Newletters are sent home monthly to help parents to stay informed.
Since we believe the students of St. Bart’s should appreciate the greater community, Community Outreach is an important aspect of our program. Collecting food for the shelter at St. Bart’s, providing toys for needy children, participating in the Trike-a-thon to raise money for St. Judes Hospital, and donating Halloween candy are just a few school-wide projects. Class IV also organizes and manages a Coat Drive for donation to The Bowery Mission.
DIVERSITY
Recognizing and celebrating diversity is an important part of life at St. Bart’s Preschool. Every race, religion, ethnic and economic background is welcomed! St. Bart’s strives to provide a community that is inclusive and comfortable for all. Each spring, the school community gathers together to celebrate International Day. This special day includes music and dancing from other countries and cultures and ends with an international feast for all!
